Technical Workshop: Beautiful Swans
For Pilates Teachers and Intermediate to Advanced Students.
@ Mulberry House, Edinburgh, Fri. 31st of March 17, 5:45pm-7:15pm
Why do you always feel your back tightening so much when you do intermediate or advanced extension exercises like swan/swan dive? Or maybe you are ok with swan, but you know the segmental extension through your spine could be better?
In this 90 minute workshop we will look at spinal extension and what is needed during exercises like swan in order to make them feel good in our back. We will discuss the barriers and problems we face when practicing spinal extension exercises., then we will begin to explore the exercise in a new way. We will play with some preperational movements that will help us simply ease into swan. Swan/Swan Dive and its variations will be at the center of this workshop, however we may also have the opportunity to play with swan on the mini arc and other extension exercises such as swimming and other mini arc spine extensions such as supine stretch and roll back reach. This is a great workshop to get to know other pilates fans and colleagues, mingle and learn from each other.
Testimonials from previous technical workshops:
"Loved the advanced technical workshop and my clients have immediately benefited too.. Kristin adds a special approach to the more challenging exercises thereby making them much more achievable. Using the mini ball with Swan allowed my clients to gain greater focus and understanding of the exercise and one of my clients achieved roll over for the first time. All thanks to Kristen" Lucie F.
"Thank you Kristin for such a great session! My body is thanking me. Lots of new ways to release my tight hip flexors, which is always appreciated. I loved how you built up to the classical exercises with clever preps, release work and pretty much mind tricks (that plank thing was magic!)." Amy E.
"Thank you so much for the wonderful workshop last night. I learnt so much, which changed the feel of the moves. Loved the leg pull prone meditation." - Jane C
Release & Restore - 90min. Class
@ Mulberry House, Edinburgh, Fri. 21st of April 17, 5:45pm-7:15pm
This 90 minute, one-off class will mobilise and relax your socks off.. You will be guided through some simple breathing and relaxation exercises to calm your system, find focus and tune into the state of your connective tissue. We often believe our muscles to be tight and try to stretch them off. Yet we do not seem to get much effect from all the stretching. Most of the time it is actually the fascia that our muscles are wrapped up in that is tight and inflexible and makes us feel stiff achy and immobile. This class will take you through a range of release and mobilisation exercises that will reach and target your connective tissue in ways you never have been able to with conventional stretches and exercises. You will find these movements and releases comfortable, satisfying, relaxing and relieving.. Afterwards you will feel powerfully different as you experience a much healthier state of your connective tissue all around and through your body. Everyone is welcome. If you suffer from injuries or health conditions contact Kristin for advice if this class is suitable for you.
Testimonials from previous classes:
"Thank you very much again for your wonderful class on Friday. I think I got more release in those 90 minutes than from any other therapy session over the last 3 years. So I'm very keen to return." Gerald H.
"I feel great after the workshop. I had a very stiff shoulder and hip before and they are both much better. Even having gone to a gig last night and standing for hours which usually means a very painful hip the following day!" Kate K.
The Power of Touch
-For Reps Level 3 (or above) Fitness Professionals
@ Mulberry House, Edinburgh, please inquire about dates
Do you feel like you should be more hands-on in your Pilates class or with your PT client, but you don't feel confident about your tactile cueing? Or perhaps you are just not sure when it is ok to touch your client and when it is not. As part of our Pilates Teacher training or Personal Trainer courses we have learned ways of how to assist, support or correct our clients with touch. However touch is something very fragile, intimate and powerful, and most of the time our training in this regard does not really empower us to use this amazing tool. In this 2 hour workshop we will take a closer look at different types of hands-on cueing and how we can use this teaching tool in a save, positive and effective way. This is a practical workshop in which we will practice different types of hands-on cues on each other to improve our tactile skill so we feel confident to use it and our clients will always feel save and supported in our hands. You will have the chance to "get to grips" with the following types of tactile cueing:
Resistance for MET & RI
Resistance for Feedback
Fascial Network Support
Basic Anatomy Refresher

This workshop is for fitness professionals who hold a Reps Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (or other equivalent, basic anatomy qualification).
We have all learned our muscles and what they do when we qualified many years ago. But do you remember any of it now?
Many fitness professionals and therapists have approached me in the past, saying they would like to refresh their basic knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and become more confident about how to apply this knowledge to the moving bodies of their clients.
So I have put together this four hour interactive and practical workshop to refresh your memory and help you gain more confidence in the practical applications of your anatomical knowledge.
